"The Flying V Medallion is a slight redesign of the 1st Reissue Flying V. Changes include a two-piece body, three-piece neck with a volute, "MADE IN U.S.A." stamp under the serial number on the headstock, a shorter (7 1/8 in. versus 7 5/8 in.) and less pointed headstock, Gibson Deluxe tuners with plastic tulip buttons, clean cavity routes, a slightly smaller pickguard, stop tailpiece, no noise reduction cage in control cavity, and round numbered medallion with production number inlaid into bass-side wing. Gibson also raised the fingerboard 3/8 in. above the body along the neck joint. The Medallion guitars have a keyway visible on the bottom-side between the two wings that was used to align the body. This model is equipped with patent number decal humbucker pickups and produced in Cherry finish only. The original case is V-shaped and triangular with purple lining, most with a medallion riveted to upper neck portion. Shipping totals indicate 350 guitars were shipped during 1971."
