Max Baranet - master guitar builder
A Master for 50 Years
Peter "Max" Baranet was the one of the most well known guitar builders of the last fifty years, known for exquisite replica instruments as well as innovative custom pieces. With a superb knowledge of electronics and woodworking, as well as access to the finest aged woods, Max was able to build guitars that kept the tone and feel of classic 1950s instruments. As a result, his guitars are played by some of the biggest names in Rock N Roll.
While there are many secrets to what makes a MAX guitar so special, a key ingredient is the materials Max used to build. He bought only old-growth Honduran mahogany, African Limba (or Korina) and Brazilian rosewood, unavailable worldwide today. He also used the same binding materials that 1950s manufacturers used, namely hide glue, which provided joints that enhanced tone and sustain, unlike the materials of today that dampen vibration and kill tone.
Max also used nitrocellulose lacquer finishes which dry to a glass-like finish and provide superior resonance, versus the finishes of today which contain plastic and again serve to dampen vibration and kill tone.
